Era: 1970
Details:
Ethereal and beautiful silk chiffon and crochet lace gown by British designer Jean Varon. Fully dethatched sheer bishop sleeves with a bandeau neckline creates a striking cold shoulder effect. Fastens with a metal zipper at the back and snap closures at the cuffs. This is a very unusual Jean Varon dress being in three parts and one of the most beautiful examples I have come across.
Jean Varon was the alias for John Bates, a designer famous for producing forward thinking modern designs for the blossoming boutique scene of 1960’s London. He sought to capture the imagination and disposable income of the recently liberated youth generation whose new social freedoms inspired a focus on self expression, most obviously expressed through the fashions they wore.
