"one night after consuming the best part of a bottle of wine, I purchased an ex shop mannequin from ebay and decided that now I had one, I had better do something productive with it. "

We all encounter times in our life where you just can’t quite see how life can go on and you carry on with it. Well that was me about four months ago when my Mum was diagnosed with cancer and I made the decision to leave my full time job and move back home to be with her. It was around this time that, one night after consuming the best part of a bottle of wine, I purchased an ex shop mannequin from ebay and decided that now I had one, I had better do something productive with it.

Don’t get me wrong; starting a vintage business was not quite such a spur of the moment decision as that. The idea had been floating around in my imagination for some time but, as you can imagine, starting your own business takes a certain amount of time and energy which up until this point I hadn't had. Creating and now running Dressed in History has become a much needed focus and creative outlet for me and crucially, it is something that I am able to fit around daily hospital appointments.

So I now run Dressed in History out of my old bedroom which now I think about it, seems fitting. It is in this room that my fifteen-year-old self first discovered a love for Art and fashion and plastered these walls with magazine pages of photoshoots and fashion spreads. This is probably the place in which I feel most creative and for the moment, I am thoroughly enjoying being back in this space and building what will hopefully be a venture that I will work on for many years to come.

This was my bedroom circa 2010

And this is now, my tastes have (thankfully) evolved some what, that dolls face is plain scary….
